Amin Matalqa is a 31 year old jordanian Director and screenwriter
Amin was born in Amman_Jordan and when he was 13 he moved with his family to the united states.He studied business and marketing but that was not what amin wanted..he wanted to be a filmmaker.
so at some point he decided to pusue his dream and went to los Angeles,by day he worked in telecom to support himself and by night and on weekends he made movies.
17 short films and two screenplays he was then accepted at the American Film Institute (AFI) to be the first jordanian to enter the AFI
Now Amin’s Movie”Captain abu Raed” has been selected for the World Cinema Competition at the Sundance Film Festival. The selection has been made from over 1,600 entries in this category this year
Captain abu Raed is a movie about an aging airport janitor who is mistaken for an airline pilot by a group of poor neighborhood children weaves fantastical stories to offer hope for a sad, and sometimes unchangeable, reality.
Cast: Nadim Sawalha, Hussein Al-Sous, Rana Sultan, Uday Al-Qiddissi, Ghandi Saber
The movie will be released across Amman Theaters ,Zara Grand and Galleria february 6th 2008 after the Sundance debut

Also, Jordanian filmmaker Mahmoud Massad's feature documentary Recycle has been selected to the Sundance competition making it the fisrt Jordanian doumentary to go to Sundance. Two Jordanian feature film in one year at the Sundance. This is fantastic. And early this year, a Jordanian short film was selected to Locarno and Clermont-Ferrand. This is the year of Jordanian cinema.
